Mundi Residents

We currently have 20 Mundi members living in our section. The Mundi section has 10 apartments, where two people share one bedroom, a bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen.

Nathalie Berger

Switzerland

Hi! I’m Nathalie. I’m from Switzerland but was born in the Philippines and have lived in Indonesia, Switzerland, and Brazil. I am currently the Mundi president and am a sophomore studying Political Science, Economics, and Photography. I’m crazy about Swiss chocolate and cheese, so if you ever want to come by for some, you are more than welcome! I have been travelling since I was born and love learning languages, and am obsessed with photography! I am a member of the Latin dance group Sabrosura and secretly wish I were Brazilian. Mundi really made my experience at Duke much more personal, the group is my Duke family. Please pass by Mundi any time…we’d love to have you check out our section and we’d love to get to know you!

Jullian Goncalves

USA - New Jersey

Jullian Goncalves, the wannabe international student, absolutely loves being a part of Mundi. Hailing from the good ol' fist pumping, spray tanning, "caw-fee" pronouncing state of New Jersey, he is one of the few Americans living in Mundi. His background consists of Cuban, Spanish, and Portuguese roots, all coming together to create this beautiful creature. Jullian is Communications Chair for Mundi, a member of Sabrosura, on Dance Council, a Tour Guide, and the 2008 winner of the Miss America pageant. In his spare time, he enjoys long walks on the beach during sunset, buying crocs, being self-centered, crying over his major (Econ is death), pretending to be Regina George, dancing alone in his apartment, yolo-ing, and judging people. He's pretty fun and cool...right?

Silvia Vieira

Brazil/Italy

I'm another title

My name is Silvia - I am half Brazilian and half Italian with splashes of Australian and Californian. My passions include exploring new places, appreciating various
forms of art, late night cooking, compost bins, and being close to the ocean (as seen in this picture of me lifeguarding under Welsh weather conditions). During my freshman year I worked at the Di Giulio lab of ecotoxicology, this year I’ll be working with the Arts Annex and acting as one of the social chairs for Mundi.
Mundi is without a doubt one of the best things that have happened to me at Duke, I hope to meet many potential Mundi-ites this spring semester!

Cliff Shen

USA Florida

Yo I’m Cliff. I’m Chinese but was born in Alaska and grew up in central Florida. I’m a third-year Mechanical Engineering student and a breakdancer. I sometimes replace the word “campus” with “grounds” in conversation (I think “grounds” sounds cooler). My favorite movie is Kung Fu Panda.

Garrett Hayward

USA Rhode Island

Hello! My name is Garrett and I am a tall individual. 6'7" to be exact (201 cm for those of you who still use that archaic metric system). So now that that's out of the way, I live in Rhode Island (ironically the smallest state in the US), on a farm with two horses, chickens, and two dogs. I am the middle of two other brothers, and my family is full of die-hard baseball fans. I play for the varsity baseball team at Duke, which is a great amount of fun and a great amount of time. But when I'm not doing that, I enjoy playing piano, doing any and all things at the beach, have awesome nights on the weekends ;) , and being with my friends. And MUNDI is a great place for that!

Jawad Al-Massanat

Jordan

Marhaba! My name is Jawad and I am from Jordan, where the sun shines 333 days a year! I am currently a junior studying Electrical and Computer Engineering as well as a certificate in Energy and Environment. The two things that fascinates me the most are colors and technology, if you pass by my room you will understand why! I've spent a lot of time travelling around Europe and Asia and I am always up to a new adventure. Everyone is always welcomed at my place, especially if you like to cook a meal or have a drink!

Emelyn Erickson

USA California

Ni hao, Ahlan, Salut, and Hola! This is Emelyn. I'm fifth generation Bay Area, California, but I have homes and (host) families in France, Nicaragua, and Japan, and if I could pull of a kimono with any kind of legitimacy, I'd identify as Japanese/French/Nicaraguan as much as I do Californian. If I'm not making the beautiful (and incredibly manageable) seven minute walk from Mundi to West for class, you'll likely find me watching foreign films, going on walks with my fellow Mundi dwellers (or my pimsleur tapes depending on my level of nerdiness any given day), dancing swing or salsa (not very well, but hey!), or doing any number of outdoor activities: hiking, backpacking, rafting, you name it. My immediate plans: spend as much time as possible in the Chinese, Arabic, French and Spanish speaking world. Shalom from Israel!

Adriana Guzman

Costa Rica/Panama

Hola! I am Adriana Guzman (Ah-dree-ah-nah) and I'm currently the Vice President of Mundi and a junior studying Biology (Major) and Environmental Science and Policy (Minor)  with an interest in global health and philosophy. I was born in Costa Rica to a Costa Rican mother and a Venezuelan father, but I lived in the Republic of Panama all of my life. I enjoy playing any terrestrial or aquatic sport, outdoor adventures (aka jungle time), eating LoYo, and traveling. You can probably find me at the front of the LoYo truck line (read: I follow them on twitter, fb, and call them ocasionally to track their whereabouts); or talking/singing obnoxiously loud in spanish; or defending my theory about not wearing pants because its environmentally sustainable. Also, I might have a slight obsession with country music. Identifying with so many countries makes me feel unrooted sometimes, but being in Mundi has definitely made Duke feel like home. It doesn't matter where you come from or what your life story is, you will always find a fellow Mundier willing to help and make you smile. Before joining Mundi I had never been around so many culturally and personally interesting people who are so passionate about life. I'm exited to meet you all! World Peace.

Ben Hatt

England

My name is Ben Hatt. I'm from London (although I'm actually a fake British person - I was born in the US!) and I'm majoring in English and doing a minor in Film. I'm really interested in Theatre (I've acted as a psychotic serial killer and a schizophrenic druggy so i'm holding out for a normal role)! I'm also a big fan of Cricket, Rugby and Football - both of them.

Stephanie Chao

Brazil

I’m Stephanie, Mundi’s resident “princess.” I wear a lot of black, but don’t let that fool you – I have quite a colorful personality. My family made it incredibly difficult for me to answer the simple question of where I’m from, which is why sometimes I reply with “it’s complicated.” My grandparents are from China and Taiwan, but they immigrated to São Paulo, Brazil in the late 1950s, early 60s. Both of my parents are Brazilian, but later on my mom’s family moved to California. So as I was growing up in the (actual) big city, I’ve always identified with both the Brazilian and American culture. I went to the same school in São Paulo for my entire life, only to, upon graduation make the biggest move of my life. Coming to Duke and settling into a whole new environment away from my family seemed like a terrifying concept at first. But this change has only fed my wanderlust. The more I travel and meet people from different places the more I want to explore. I dream of travelling to all the wonderful corners of the world. I am majoring in Art History and International Comparative Studies. I simply love art. It’s my way of navigating ancient, modern, and contemporary cultures without ever leaving a room. I am fascinated by the fast-paced, highly creative, and often misunderstood world of fashion. You’ll most likely find me in Vondy, drinking my third cup of chai, typing away to the soundtrack of Ed Sheeran.

Nikita Yogesh

USA

Hey, I'm Niki! I'm a sophomore studying Art History and Evolutionary Anthropology, but all I really want to do is make art! I'm an aspiring vegan, but my greatest downfall is chocolate. I'm obsessed with Eliza Thornberry because she gets to talk to animals and travel the world. My hobbies include searching for the perfect tofu scramble and watching foreign films. Come chill with Mundi if you want to meet some exotic people!

Anthony Olawo

Kenya

I am a son, a brother, a Kenyan.
An African.

A budding curator of sexy ideas. A thinker. A writer and a slow reader. An aspiring
computer scientist. A former fly-half and current left-back.

Most importantly, I am a citizen of the world, and, via Mundi, I’ve only just
embarked on my journey through the cultural theme park that is the world.

Scott Boisvert

USA Arizona

Hey everyone! My name is Scott, Scotty, Scottle, Scottland, or whatever combination of Scott and random letters suits your fancy at the moment. I'm a pre-med majoring in cell and molecular biology with a global health certificate. I'm from Chandler, Arizona so am used to very hot temperatures. The cold scares me and you will often see me wearing obsessively large coats in an attempt to stay warm. The most important thing about me is that I am a New England sports fan, so if you like the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, etc. then I like you already. I am also an amateur anglophile, thanks to Ben Hatt.

Amay Jhaveri

India

Hey everyone! I'm Amay - a junior studying Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science. The two things I really love are technology and music. Huge Dave Matthews fan!! I play the bass guitar, drums and enjoy playing soccer. Beyond that I love going out and having a couple of drinks with friends.
